Why did I get a parking violation notice?
When you park on a private parking lot you have agreed to the posted regulations. You will receive a notice if any of these regulations have been violated, ie) permit has expired; customer parking only; failure to obtain/display permit; parking in a specially designated stall (handicap, emergency access routes, etc.)

There are essentially three areas to any property; your violation notice will apply to one of these:

  • Exclusive use areas. Signs that state "Reserved Parking by Permit", "Disabled Parking by Permit" or "Valid Permit Holders Only" indicate that the parking is for a specifically allocated group.
  • General use areas. Visitor, Customer and Patron parking areas are common examples. Parking is provided for legitimate visitors, customers or patrons only. Conditions or additional requirements such as "While on Premises", "2 Hour Limit" and "No Parking Midnight to 7 AM Except by Permit" are typically attached to regulate their use.
  • Access Routes. The only vehicles permitted to park in designated access routes and no-parking zones include authorized vehicles such as Fire, Police and Ambulance.

How did I get caught?
Enforcement staff make random patrols to ensure compliance with the regulations, permits are valid, etc. When violations are detected, violation notices will be issued. There are a variety of methods utilized by enforcement staff, including chalking of tires, video records through to simple observation and notes.

I have disputed my violation notice. Why was my dispute denied?
Although you may have brought up valid points in your dispute, satisfactory proof must be established that you did not violate any of the posted regulations at the time the notice was issued.

What will happen if I don't pay my violation notice by the due date?
For your convenience we have several options available to pay your notice. We can accept payment over the telephone with a credit card, by mail, via the internet or in person at most chartered banks. Should you choose not to pay your notice on time, collection actions, including Ontario Superior Court of Justice proceedings may be taken to enforce the payment of compensation.

If I purchased a permit from the machine, why did I still receive a violation notice?
Perhaps the permit was not properly displayed on your dashboard, therefore parking enforcement officers would not be able to see that you have paid for the permit, or your permit might have expired before you were able to return to your vehicle. In these cases, a violation notice will be issued.

I didn't see the sign.
As a vehicle operator it is your responsibility to be aware of your surroundings. By parking your vehicle you have agreed to the terms and conditions posted throughout the parking lot.

I only went across the street for a few minutes. Why did I receive a violation notice?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions in parking enforcement today. While we can appreciate the various explanations, you must remember that it is the property owner's space you are utilizing and that the owner, through signage, has established certain rules that go along with the use of the parking spaces, regardless of the amount of time used.

The machine wasn't working/I couldn't obtain a permit.
Although we check our equipment on a regular basis, sometimes technical difficulties occur. Rather than be stranded for a parking permit, we encourage you to give us a call to report the difficulty so that a violation notice can be avoided.
